Leon Rausch, "The Great Vocal Stylist" has maintained a highly visible image in the movement to present Western Swing Music in it's traditional form, yet he continues to allow the natural evolution of his tremendous vocal talent. His extensive live performance dates and vast discography of recorded music, since joining Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys Band on St. Patrick's Day 1958, is evidence that he has become a permanent part of the memories and collectibles of millions of music lovers around the world. Technology has changed the various musical forms that fans have been able to acquire his music, but not the essence of the way Leon entertains his loyal fans. "Deep In The Heart Of Texas" continues to maintain Leon's high musical standards and his desire to perform Western Swing Music for his fans.
Under the direction of the "Legendary Producer" Tommy Allsup, the engineers were able to capture Leon Rausch's special vocal presence on 20 songs assembled in this collection entitled "Deep In The Heart Of Texas". From the very start everyone involved with this project felt the magic that surrounds Leon when he is in front of a microphone, because his vocal presence brings such excitement and inspiration to all the other gifted musicians.
"I agree with Tommy Allsup, Grammy Award Winner, when he said that Leon was Bob Wills favorite'. In addition, I would like to say Thank You' to Leon Rausch and Tommy Allsup for being my friends and the tremendous opportunity to bring together the Best in Western Swing for this project. Leon was really onwhat a Great Voice!"
Steve Reed, Executive Producer for SOUTHLAND RECORDS ®

"From my collection of favorite recordings that I have done through the years comes Deep In The Heart of Texas', which I am very proud of on Southland Records ®. With the help of my producers Tommy Allsup and Steve Reed of Arlington, Texas, I think we have come up with a collection of very interesting versions of some oldies as well as some newer songs. Enjoy these recordings that I am sharing with you now and thanks for helping keep Western Swing Alive & Kicking'. Hope to see you down the road soon." Leon Rausch
"There's three kinds of singers: 1. Singers 2. Good Singers 3. Great Singers. There has not been that many Great Western Swing Singers'. You can almost count them on one hand. I'm writing this because in my fifty years of playing Western Swing and other types of music, I have worked with the ones starting in the 1950's, I personally think were Great! They are Tommy Duncan, Leon Huff, Curley Lewis, Jimmy Hall, Rusty McDonald, Tex Williams, Jimmy Widener, Cotton Thompson, and Leon Rausch. I'm still working with Leon and Curley. In my conversations with Bob Wills, Leon was considered his favorite singer along with Tommy Duncan.
Singers and musicians are alike, some sing or play great, but they can't all SWING'. It all boils down to one thing which is: IT DON'T MEAN A THING, IF YOU AIN'T GOT THAT SWING'! This brings me to my conclusion LEON'S GOT THAT SWING!' Leon Rausch (AKA) A Great Western Swing Singer."
Tommy Allsup, Grammy Award Winner
"Nobody can do it .like Rausch. I rate him a ten on a one to ten scale .the best singer there is." Eldon Shamblin
When asked to write a few words about Leon Rausch, I told Executive Producer Steve Reed that it would be an honor. I said to myself This will be easy'. However, when sitting down to put the words on paper, I drew a blank. What can you say that hasn't already been said about the Finest Western Swing Singer' in the world? Stuff like fantastic, superb, etc .. Nah, that's already been done. Then it dawned on me. A little while back we did a show to honor the great songwriter Cindy Walker. The Time Warp Tophands did the music, Don Edwards handled the Cowboy stuff, and Leon did the Western Swing songs. Toward the end of the show as Leon finished up one of Cindy's tunes, she jumped up from her seat and with a strong but trembling voice (bordering on tears) said; That's the best thing that I've ever heard!' Quite a compliment from the lady who just this year was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. I can't say anything to top that, so I'll just end this little vignette." Tom Morrell
